Learning to protect the public from hazards as serious as fire is a lifelong quest. Even the more experienced firefighters are aware that they could find themselves in a new or unfamiliar situation at any time, and they need to be mindful of their own safety, as well as those around them, the general public and anyone that might need to be rescued.
There are a huge number of reasons beyond fires that the fire service gets called to, ranging from the stereotypes like cats in trees to releasing people trapped in car accidents or even stuck in lifts!
